The difficulty of machining cemented carbide in CNC machining center is mainly reflected in the following aspects:
First of all, cemented carbide has high hardness and high wear resistance. Cemented carbide is a material made of tungsten carbide powder and cobalt powder sintered at high temperature, and its hardness can reach more than HRA90, which is much harder than ordinary metal materials. Therefore, when processing cemented carbide, it is necessary to use tools and processing processes with higher hardness and wear resistance to ensure that the tool is not easy to wear during processing. This puts forward higher requirements for tool selection and process setting of CNC machining center.
Secondly, cemented carbide has a high brittleness. Due to the relatively dense structure and high hardness of cemented carbide, its brittleness is also large. In the processing process, it is easy to break the tool or chip off the situation, especially in the deep hole processing or small parts processing is more likely to occur. Therefore, when machining cemented carbide, CNC machining center needs more careful consideration of tool selection, cutting parameters setting, machining path planning and other aspects to reduce the risk of brittle fracture.
In addition, the thermal conductivity of cemented carbide is relatively low, and the thermal conductivity is poor. When processing cemented carbide, because of its poor heat dissipation performance, it is easy to lead to the temperature of the processing area, the tool and the workpiece are heated and expanded, which affects the processing quality and processing accuracy. Therefore, for CNC machining centers, when machining cemented carbide, it is necessary to optimize the cooling and lubrication system in the processing process to ensure that the temperature control of the cutting area is within the appropriate range to improve the processing quality and workpiece accuracy.
Moreover, the cutting performance of cemented carbide is poor, and the processing is difficult. Carbide in the cutting process is easy to produce chip solid welding, reverse cutting, cutting zone heating, surface sand and other phenomena, which will not only lead to the increase of cutting force, machining surface quality decline, but also affect the tool life and processing efficiency. When machining cemented carbide, CNC machining center needs to choose the right tool material, tool geometry and tool coating to improve cutting performance and reduce processing difficulty.
In summary, the difficulty of machining cemented carbide in CNC machining center is mainly reflected in high hardness, strong wear resistance, large brittleness, poor thermal conductivity, poor cutting performance and so on. In order to overcome these difficulties, it is necessary to reasonably select and set tools, process parameters, processing paths, etc., to ensure processing quality and processing efficiency. With the continuous development and improvement of CNC technology, we believe that we can better meet these challenges and process cemented carbide materials more efficiently.
